College of Education and Human Sciences faculty, staff receive 2024 University Awards

The College of Education and Human Sciences was well represented during Oklahoma State University’s 2024 University Awards Convocation on Dec. 12 in the Student Union Ballroom. A total of 19 faculty and staff members received honors during the campuswide celebration.

Provost Jeanette Mendez and Vice Provost Dr. Chris Francisco awarded the faculty, staff and administrators, nominated by supervisors and colleagues, for their accomplishments.

List of CEHS Awardees:

Dr. Douglas Knutson — associate professor of community health sciences, counseling and counseling psychology — received awards in three different categories. Knutson received the Distinguished Early Career Faculty Award and the Phoenix Award for Graduate Faculty. He was also recognized among 12 CEHS faculty newly appointed to endowed chairs and professorships.

Dr. Stephen Clarke was presented with the University Service Award. The award honors individuals who go above and beyond their assigned responsibilities and have made a notable difference in their units and to OSU as a whole. Clarke is senior associate dean for research, graduate studies and faculty affairs and a professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences.

Dr. Ron Cox — Extension specialist and George Kaiser Family Foundation chair in Child and Family Resilience — was presented with the Public Impact Research Award in recognition of his work on the United We Can program, enhancing academic achievement, empowering families and strengthening peer relationships among middle school students. Cox is a professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science.

Dr. Sam Emerson — associate professor in nutritional sciences — earned the Regents Distinguished Research Award, which recognizes faculty who have shown unusually significant achievement in their research field.

Dr. Sarah Johnson — clinical assistant professor in community health sciences, counseling and counseling psychology — was presented with the Regents Distinguished Teaching Award, given in recognition of meritorious achievement in the instruction of students over a period of years.

Dr. Michael Rhone — teaching instructor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences — was honored with the Dr. Patricia A. Bell Inclusive Excellence Faculty Award.

Jason Kirkpatrick and Dr. Jill Joyce were recognized for Advising Excellence. Kirkpatrick serves as senior academic advisor in the CEHS Academic Programs and Student Success Center in CEHS. Joyce, an associate professor and graduate coordinator in nutritional sciences, was named the Graduate College’s Outstanding Graduate Advisor.

A total of 12 faculty newly appointed to endowed chairs or professorships in the college were honored:

  • Dr. Jennifer Cribbs — Bill and Billie Dean Buckles Innovation in Teaching Endowed Professorship
  • Dr. Katherine Curry — Williams Chair in Higher Education
  • Dr. Erin Dyke — Laurence L. and Georgia Ina Dresser Professorship in Rural Teacher Education
  • Dr. Ashlyn Fiegener — John A. and Donnie Brock Professorship in Educational Leadership and Policy
  • Dr. Stephanie Hathcock — Audrey E. Oaks Endowed Professorship
  • Dr. Douglas Knutson — Myron C. Ledbetter and Bob Lemon Counseling Psychology Diversity Professorship
  • Dr. DJ McMaughan — Joan Donelson Jacques Health Promotion Professorship
  • Dr. Shanedra Nowell — Stella V. Andersen Endowed Professorship
  • Dr. Hyejune Park — Carol Dewitt Morsani Endowed Professorship in Design
  • Dr. Jon Pedersen — Frank and Carol Morsani Endowed Chair in Mathematics and Science Education
  • Dr. Qiuying (Lydia) Wang — Elizabeth Jacques Munroe Professorship in Reading and Literacy Education
  • Dr. Carrie Winterowd — Jennifer Jacques Flanery Community Counseling Professorship
