Four CEAT students selected as OSU Seniors of Significance for 2011-2012

STILLWATER, Okla. (Nov. 15, 2011) – Four College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology students have been selected as an Oklahoma State University Seniors of Significance for the 2011-2012 academic year by the OSU Alumni Association.

Nick Copeland, Lawrence McClure, Taylor Austin Mitchell and Mark Nelson have been selected as OSU Seniors of Significance, which recognizes students who have excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to campus and community and have brought distinction to OSU.

“This group represents approximately one percent of the senior class and OSU’s best with their involvement in numerous service and leadership organizations,” says Larry Shell, OSU Alumni Association president. “We are honored to recognize them for their achievements and support them as they prepare to join the OSU alumni family.”

Nick Copeland is a civil engineering major from Shawnee, Okla. During his time at OSU, Copeland was a awarded the Allen Scholar, which is one of the premier engineering scholars programs in the nation and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He served on the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology Student Council and is a member of Engineering Without Borders. He will be traveling with the group to Sierre Leone during winter break to build biosand filters and drill water wells.

Lawrence McClure is an electrical engineering technology major from Desoto, Texas. During his time at OSU, McClure was a volunteer at The Big Event, a cultural ambassador for Wentz, a promotional video producer for the OSU Study Abroad Office and was named Intern of the Year by the INROADS organization for his internship with Lockheed Martin and his leadership as Intern Student Association president.

Taylor Austin Mitchell is a mechanical and aerospace engineering major from Stillwater, Okla. During his time at OSU, Mitchell was president of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology Student Council, a Wentz Research Scholar, a College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology Scholar and a first place American Society for Mechanical Engineers winner for regional design team.

Mark Nelson is an aerospace and mechanical engineering and Russian language and literature major from Oklahoma City, Okla. During his time at OSU, Nelson’s favorite memories were running with the OSU Cross Country team, traveling with Dr. Dick’s through rural Sierra Leone on the way to Njala University and Mathumbo village, walking to class on his first day at OSU with his older brother and walking to class with his little sister on her first day at OSU.

A public reception to recognize the 40 Seniors of Significance Award winners will be held on November 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center in Stillwater, Okla.
