Hall of Fame Recipients Honored

(STILLWATER, Okla., Sept 24, 2012) – The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University hosted its 58th annual Hall of Fame on September 21, 2012. The three distinguished alumni inducted this year were Wilson “Dutch” Shoffner, Cal Vogt and Jerry Winchester.

These Hall of Fame recipients join a long list of highly successful alumni who have contributed to the world through service, business and innovations.

Wilson “Dutch” Shoffner is a retired Army Lieutenant General, who graduated from OSU in 1961 with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Shoffner was Commander of the Combined Arms Command and Commandant of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Commander of the 3rd Infantry Division with over 30,000 personnel; Director of Force Development for the Department of Army; and Assistant Division Commander of the 1st Cavalry Division.

When Shoffner retired from the army, he took a position as Vice President of Product Development for Lockheed Martin in Grand Prairie, Texas. His major efforts there included advanced armaments, combat system survivability and signature management, advanced interceptor missiles, advanced sensors and fire control, synthetic battlefields and operations research and system analysis.

Shoffner continues to serve as a consultant to various national defense activities and is a National Security Fellow with the Institute of Strategic and Innovative Technologies. Although much of the engineering work he performs has classified applications, the subject matter includes High Power Micro Waves, High Energy Lasers, Kinetic Energy, and EM Launched weapons.

Cal Vogt received both his bachelors and masters degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering at OSU. He has authored of many patents and owned several companies over the years. He began his career at Bell Telephone Labs in New York City. Vogt did work in developing several electronic innovations and products for which he received extensive patents.

Vogt has sold product ideas to QuikTrip stores, Hilti Corp., and others. He has performed research and development in elecro photography and its application to oscillographs. He was instrumental in developing the first direct writing light beam recording oscillographs using the xeropgaphic process. This was some of the primary work leading to the development of high-speed CRT printers, facsimile recorders and transducers.

Vogt lead business entities in 10 foreign countries, and was a pioneer in the instrumentation for oil and gas exploration and production. He contributed significant technical expertise for downhole temperature and pressure measurement devices. One of his most notable achievements was the invention of the first automated parking meter.

Jerry Winchester is the current Chief Executive Officer of Oilfield Services for Chesapeake Energy, Corp. He was an Engineering Technology graduate of OSU and spent a large portion of his time as a defensive tackle for the OSU Cowboys. Winchester worked for Halliburton Energy Services, where he became the Global Manager of Well Control, Coil Tubing and Special Services. In 1998, he became President and Chief Executive Officer of Boots & Coots. Under his leadership, Winchester grew the company from $25 million in annual revenue to $280 million in just six short years.

At Chesapeake, he has lead vertical integration efforts to grow service offerings and revenue streams from $700,000 to well over $1 billion. In one year, Jerry has brought together seven energy service companies into a single corporate entity that supports most active drillers in the U.S.

The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology is proud to call these three graduates Hall of Fame recipients.
