(STILLWATER, Okla., November 5, 2013) – The Blackwell Fire Department, in cooperation with Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training, hosted a Firefighter 1 Academy where nine professionals received vital training in safety and fire response. This training, as well as others which take place throughout the year, provide citizens of Oklahoma support and knowledge as part of OSU’s land-grant mission of service and outreach.
This academy certified nine firemen in the areas of search and rescue, fire attack, safety, ladder, basic training, and much more. The National Fire Protection Association recognizes the academy as a Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications.
“The Blackwell Fire Department is grateful to have been given the opportunity to host a Firefighter I Academy,” said Russell Brand, Blackwell Fire Chief. “The individuals attending this academy displayed a tremendous level of dedication to the fire service and their respective departments. Every member of the Blackwell Fire Department assisted in class lecture and practical skills training.”
Fire departments represented included: Blackwell, Braman, Newkirk, Hillsdale, Ranch Drive, Peckham and South Haven, KS.
“None of this would have been possible without the aid and support from OSU Fire Service Training, City of Blackwell City Manager Mark Skiles, City of Blackwell Mayor Mark Cordell, and the Blackwell City Council,” said Brand.
FST offers training in all 77 counties of Oklahoma. Since 1935, countless personnel have been trained in hazardous, fire safety and emergency response.
Fire Service Training is an outreach unit of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University. For more information on trainings and activities provided by FST, visit www.osufst.org.
