The goal of this initiative is to foster a culture where students, staff and faculty can enhance their personal growth through leadership experiences and professional development.
This workshop series is provided at no cost to the OSU community, from 12:00-1:30pm.

April 26, 2017 - Leadership Self-Development: If you don't do it, who will?

In academic settings, as compared to the corporate world, leadership development is
often less structured. Deciding who will emerge as tomorrow’s leaders, and preparing
those proto-leaders for their future
roles, is rarely a systematic process. Instead, much of the decisionmaking falls
to the potential leaders themselves. Do I want to become a leader? If so, what kind
of leader? What steps will help me become the
kind of leader I want to be?
These are all questions that will be explored, with ideas, possibilities and suggestions provided by Sewell that reflect his personalexperience, his research on leadership, and his background as a clinical psychologist and social scientist.

Kenneth Sewell is the vice president for research at Oklahoma State University. In this role, he is in charge of the strategic direction of the OSU research enterprise, and he oversees the policies, offices and service units that support and promote research, scholarship and creative artistry at OSU.Sewell views university research as the engine that drives all persons engaged in and with it—whether they are faculty researchers, students, community partners or societal consumers—to the forefront of change, transformation and progress. With this guiding philosophy, he conceptualizes research as a vital catalyst: what faculty and students do today that was not yet conceived (let alone printed in a textbook) yesterday.
Sewell received his bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University, then his master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Kansas. He joined OSU in 2015 after serving as the vice president for research and economic development at the University of New Orleans, and in several roles (including vice president for research) at the University of North Texas.

Pre-registration guarantees a seat and lunch. The workshops are restricted to the first 80 registrations. Confirmed participants who do not attend their scheduled seminar will be charged $10.00 unless a 48-hour cancellation notice is given.
