Graduate assistant at Fire Protection Publications presented award at the Fire Service College Conference in United Kingdom

(STILLWATER, Okla., December 5, 2014) – Joel Billings, a graduate assistant at Fire Protection Publications and doctorate student in OSU’s Fire and Emergency Management Administration graduate program, was recognized for the Best Poster Award with a price of £250 at the Fire Service College Conference in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, England.
This is the eighth year the conference was held and took place on November 13, 2014. It was focused on fire-related research and development. The awards were created by FIRE and W. L. Gore & Associates (U.K.) Limited to recognize excellence in research in the U.K. Fire Service and encourage the continued development of research based on innovation and ideas that will help to protect communities and fire fighters.
Dave Frodsham, product specialist at W.L. Gore & Associates Inc, says that the company is committed to support the development of new ideas and innovation in the U.K. Fire Service that are driven by research. They plan to continue to support this award to encourage ongoing research that will make communities safer in the future.
Billings received his bachelor’s degree from Lake Superior State University in Fire Science and master’s degree from OSU. He was selected to enroll in a fire cadet program during high school and became a volunteer firefighter for the Waterford Township Fire Department after graduation. He has earned his Firefighter I & II certification along with an EMT-B medical license.
