(STILLWATER, Okla., July 27, 2015) – Gouranga Banik, Ph.D., P.E., has been appointed as the new head of the Division of Engineering Technology in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology.
With 17 years of academic experience and 10 years of industry experience, Banik has
developed the expertise to implement creative ideas to increase enrollment, retention
and graduation, as well as strengthen and expand academic programs. Most recently,
Banik served as Chair and Professor for the Department of Civil and Architectural
Engineering at Tennessee State University.
“Dr. Banik brings a strong background in both technology and engineering to OSU’s
Division of Engineering Technology,” Paul Tikalsky, CEAT dean, says. “He leads a diverse
unit of the college with four distinct programs with a goal of creating 21st century
synergy between them.”
A professional engineer and university administrator, Banik has the capability to
readily facilitate collaboration and synergy both inside and outside of the college.
His experiences and responsibilities have helped him to develop strategies and policies
to address university strengths and weaknesses, and to provide opportunities to ensure
top quality programs.
“The graduates of the Engineering Technology Division of CEAT are in high demand,
and Dr. Banik will be a catalyst for OSU to continue to develop the curriculum of
needed skills to meet the intellectual capital needs of the region,” Tikalsky says.
Banik’s current research is interdisciplinary and draws from sustainable materials,
project delivery systems and STEM education. He is continually working to present
interdisciplinary strategic and collaborative opportunities, where existing resources
can be fully utilized to benefit students, faculty, the industry and external constituents.
“I am very honored and thrilled to be appointed as the new division head within CEAT,
and I plan to expand our efforts to provide a first rate, world-class engineering
and technology education to the state and to the region,” Banik says. “I am impressed
that CEAT’s distinctive, academic, student-centered and industry-engaged vision is
alive, and that it energizes my colleagues at OSU. I look forward to working with
Dean Tikalsky, his leadership team and our faculty and staff in mapping out a strategic
plan that will move both the division, and the college, forward.”
