OSU Alumni Association honoring Terry with the Distinguished Alumni Award

STILLWATER, Okla. (Sept. 11, 2015) – The Oklahoma State University Alumni Association is honoring Phil Terry as one of the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients. Terry, along with five other recipients, will be recognized at a reception at the CononcoPhillips OSU Alumni Center on Friday, Sept. 18 and during the UTSA vs. OSU football game on Sept. 19 at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Phil Terry, originally of Mountain View, Okla., graduated from OSU in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

He began his career as an engineer with Mobil Oil Corporation and subsequently served in management and executive positions with several public and private energy companies. In 2003 Terry joined Arena Resources Inc., a small Tulsa public company, where he later served as President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Executive Officer until 2010 when Arena merged with a public energy company. In 2011, Terry co-founded Capstone Natural Resources, LLC where he served as chairman and CEO until its sale in 2014. Capstone Natural Resources II, LLC was co-founded by Terry in 2015 and he now serves as its chairman.

Terry is a registered professional petroleum engineer and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He now serves as an Oklahoma State University Foundation Trustee and sits on the Budget and Governance committees. Terry also served on the OSU Provost’s External Advisory Committee.  He served on the board of Oklahoma Methodist Manor, and as a Trustee for Abiding Harvest Methodist Church, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma where he is currently Chairman of the Building Committee. Terry is also a past president of Executives of Tulsa.

Terry resides in Tulsa with his wife, Ruth, who is a retired CPA. They have one son, Mike, who resides in Shreveport with his wife and their three sons; and a daughter, Sarah, who resides in Bixby with her husband and son.
