Professional Development partners with ODOT to administer training program
Friday, October 23, 2015
The 2016 fiscal year marks the beginning of a new opportunity for OSU CEAT. A contract with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) gives Professional Development a critical role in administering the Highway Construction Materials Technician Certification Board (HCMTCB) program.
To comply with a federal mandate (23 CFR 637.209), ODOT requires all materials technicians working on federally funded highway construction projects to be registered with the HCMTCB. The program provides training and certification in sampling and testing procedures for asphalt and Portland cement concrete, soils, aggregates, and pavement smoothness as well as specially designed training for highway construction inspectors.
Classroom instruction and written examinations are conducted in the Professional Development classroom while hands-on training and technician evaluations take place in the new Highway Construction Materials Training Lab located at 980 North Ridge Rd. (in the Bert Cooper Engineering Lab). OSU faculty is partnering with industry professionals to deliver the instruction and evaluation.
Professor Stephen A. Cross, Ph. D., PE, is the new Program Director and Steve Sawyer has come over from ODOT to become the Program Coordinator. Training and certification modules are scheduled beginning October 5, 2015 and ending in June of 2016.
Upwards of 700 enrollments are expected for FY 2016.
