(STILLWATER, Okla., August 21, 2015) – Scotty Hicks of Nowata, Okla., has been named a W.W. Allen Boys and Girls Club scholar.
“This scholarship has let me show my Boys and Girls Club kids that if they love doing something, and if they put in the work to kindle that passion enough, that they can bring their aspirations within reach,” Hicks said. “My personal education has always been my top priority; I have been given an opportunity to foster relationships with individuals that will bolster my ability to communicate what I'm capable of and expose me to more diverse ideas and situations. This opportunity has been my saving grace, and I can't express how grateful I truly am to have been given this amazing opportunity.”
The W.W. Allen Boys and Girls Club Scholars Program awards more than $74,000 toward a bachelor’s degree in engineering for an incoming freshman who was active in a Boys and Girls Club chapter while in high school. The scholarship program also includes enrichment activities, professional development and national and international travel opportunities. Only one scholarship is awarded each year.
