CEAT Career Services Workshops

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

CEAT Career Services hosted a student workshop over Research vs. Internship Opportunities March 22, 2016 in the Vogt Room.

Mike Vanderwerken, an employee of General Electric, came to speak to CEAT students over the importance of research and internships and the benefits of each opportunity. Both research and internships are excellent opportunities for students, but depending on career path, one option could potentially be more relevant than the other. Vanderwerken said that most students seeking a career in the industry should primarily focus on summer internships as they are a more relevant work experience. Internships afford the chance for students to work in the corporate world while still in college and looks great on a resume. For students focused on attaining a Ph.D. for research and development, higher education, or other areas requiring a graduate degree, research could be the better option as it provides opportunities for publications on projects that are highly sought after by graduate schools and research and development sectors.
