CEAT Students Win Society of Petroleum Engineers Mid-Continent Regional Paper Contest

(STILLWATER, Okla., March 14, 2016) – Subarna Kole and Dakota Murdock took first place in their respective divisions in the 2016 Society of Petroleum Engineers Mid-Continent Paper Contest. Students from Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, University of Tulsa, University of Kansas and Missouri University of Science and Technology participated in this year’s competition held in Rolla, MO, on March 5, 2016.

“I am extremely delighted to announce that the OSU team won two out of the three first place prizes in the 2016 SPE Mid-Continent Regional Paper Contest,” says Dr. Prem Bikkina, SPE faculty advisor. “The timely achievement spotlights the highest academic standards of the ongoing OSU’s petroleum engineering program.”  

Kole placed first in the masters division with her presentation covering ‘Microfluidics Based Emulsion Characterization: A Parametric Study.’

“It was a great experience presenting at the 2016 SPE Mid-Continent Regional Paper Contest and competing with the students from the established petroleum engineering programs in the region,” says Kole, “I am very happy to receive the opportunity to compete for the finals at 2016 SPE ATCE in Dubai.”  Kole continued by thanking her advisor, Dr. Prem Bikkina for his excellent guidance and constant support.

Murdock also took home first place in the undergraduate division with his presentation over ‘Type Curve Evaluation on the Basis of Completion Vintage.’

“I am also proud to have done my part in bringing oil and gas industry recognition to Oklahoma State University,” says Murdock. “We have an incredible engineering college, and I believe Subarna Kole and I have shown that OSU engineers can be successful in whatever arena they choose to apply their talents. We will now move forward to show that to the rest of the world in the international competition in Dubai, UAE, in September.”

Kole and Murdock will represent Oklahoma State University at the 2016 SPE ATCE in Dubai this September with all expenses covered by the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
