OSU architecture students win inaugural Launch digital art prizes

OKLAHOMA CITY, January 18, 2016 - Three Oklahoma college students have been recognized
with a Skyline Ink Animation Studios Launch Prize for their digital artwork. Skyline
Ink artists met the winners and announced their awards January 16 at the [Artspace]
at Untitled gallery.
First place winner Austin Mitchell is a graduating senior in the architecture design
program at Oklahoma State University. Stillwater, Okla. is his hometown, and his interests
have always included sketching, music and mathematics.
“All of this combined led me to architecture, and visualization became one of my
passions in the field,” Mitchell said. “When I am not in (architecture) studio, you
can usually find me playing music or soccer.”
Second place winner Stephanie Onuaja is a third year architecture student at Oklahoma
State University. She was born in Brazil and considers her hometown Lagos, Nigeria,
where she lived from the age of nine. Story is key for her attraction to architecture.
“What I love the most about it is the aspect of conceptualization, where a story
is attached to the making of the space,” Onuaja said. “Architecture allows me to convey
a story while directly impacting the quality of life, inspiring and evoking emotions.”
Third place winner Jessica Slack graduated magna cum laude from Oklahoma Christian
University’s gaming and animation program in December. She combined her love for art
and video games in her degree and is currently pursuing her dream of becoming a character
artist in the gaming industry. Her hometown is Vancouver, Washington.
Skyline Ink Animation Studios has established its Launch prize to challenge Oklahoma
college students and help them introduce themselves to the 3D computer graphics industry.
The challenge focuses on core principles the studio identifies as its own measure
of success: excellence in storytelling, art and computer technology.
