Former Seagate exec to succeed Millican as OC board chair

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Mark Brewer, the outgoing senior vice president and chief information officer for Seagate Technology, will become the 13th chairman of Oklahoma Christian University’s board of trustees in April.
 
Brewer joined the OC board in 2003 and has served as vice chairman since 2006. He succeeds Don Millican, OC’s board chair since 2002. Millican, the chief financial officer for Kaiser-Francis Oil Company, became an OC trustee in 1996 and will remain on the board.
 
Brewer’s board leadership includes his service on OC’s external relations and finance committees and his prior roles on the resources and advancement committees. The support of Mark and his wife Beth has been integral to OC’s campus dining enhancements, its innovative Ethos spiritual life initiative, and many other projects.
 
“Dr. Mark Brewer has served as an OC trustee with distinction and will be a outstanding chairman,” OC president John deSteiguer said. “Wise, smart, articulate, spiritual, loyal, visionary, generous – he possesses all the attributes an ideal leader needs. Mark and Beth are dear friends, and they are, and will continue to be, a great blessing to the Oklahoma Christian community.”
 
Brewer stepped down from Seagate this month after leading all information technology operations worldwide for the company’s global operations. His organization at Seagate consisted of 1,800 IT professionals located in 13 countries in 44 locations.
 
His responsibilities included all business systems, factory information systems, electronic security, business continuity, and collaboration services, as well as other traditional IT support services for the company’s 50,000 employees.
 
Brewer previously was based in Singapore, leading Seagate’s IT operations in the Asia/Pac region. He also worked for AT&T Network Systems and AT&T Bell Laboratories.
 
Brewer earned B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University.

He was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame for OSU’s College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology and serves on its Strategic Advisory Council. He also serves on the boards of the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank and Missions Resource Network.
 
He has spoken in several forums on privacy and security topics related to information technology, and has extensive experience with enterprise level security issues, challenges and operations.
 
The Brewers attend Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond, where Mark is a deacon. Beth serves on the board for Lilyfield Christian Adoption and Foster Care. Their children, Allison Dinse and Clayton Brewer, both attended Oklahoma Christian.

Oklahoma Christian is ranked as one of the best universities in the western United States by The Princeton Review and U.S. News and World Report. A recent study rated Oklahoma Christian as one of the best higher education values in Oklahoma, citing the university’s low net price combined with OC graduates’ high starting salaries.

OC set a school record with 2,600 students enrolled this year. The university offers undergraduate programs in more than 80 fields of study, an undergraduate Honors Program, and graduate programs in accountancy, business administration, computer science, engineering, Christian ministry, divinity, and theological studies.

Brewer was one of the 2016 CEAT Hall of Fame inductees. He was recognized at the Hall of Fame ceremony in October, 2016.
