STILLWATER, Okla. – Four students in the fire protection and safety engineering technology program at Oklahoma State University have been awarded scholarships from the American Society of Safety Engineers.

Those students are:

Jeron Hamm, Senior FPST Senior, OSU-ASSE President – UPS Diversity Scholarship, $5,250 and the UPS SAFETY 2018 Scholarship, $1,625

Joshua Yates, Junior FPST, OSU ASSE President Elect – ASSE Past Presidents & Fellows Scholarship, $4,000

Taylor Peaster, Senior FPST, OSU ASSE Treasurer – Archie Moore Scholarship, $1,000

Dakota Guzier, Senior FPST OSU ASSE Secretary – Gulf Coast Past President, $2,250

“I am so grateful for the support of the ASSE for students like myself in the FPST program at OSU,” said Hamm. “Receiving this scholarship has meant that I can finish my education at OSU with distinction and I will begin my career with the understanding of the value that being a member of ASSE brings to our profession.”

Founded in 1911, ASSE is the world’s oldest professional safety society. ASSE promotes the expertise, leadership and commitment of its members, while providing them with professional development, advocacy and standards development. It also sets the occupational safety, health and environmental community’s standards for excellence and ethics.

“I feel so blessed that ASSE recognizes the hard work and dedication that our students put into this organization and our FPST program,” said Yates.

“I am very grateful to have been chosen to receive the ASSE Archie Moore Memorial Scholarship. It means even more to me since Archie Moore had such a significant impact on the FPST program at OSU,” said Peaster. “I am extremely appreciative of both the financial and professional support. Receiving this scholarship will allow me to take online class during my summer internship and graduate this December.”

Since 1990, the ASSE Foundation has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships and professional education grants to students beginning their studies in occupational safety and professionals seeking to continue their education. They offer nearly 150 awards each year ranging from $500 to $15,000 each.

“This scholarship will allow me to advance my education and propel into my professional career,” said Guzier.
