The OSU College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology’s Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) department has won the opportunity to teach the next generation with leading edge technology thanks to EOS in Germany.

Out of the over 400 universities subscribed to the new EOS Global Academia Program, 10 were drawn at the Sintratec Kit lottery at formnext 2017, an international exhibition and conference on the next generation of manufacturing and technologies. These 10 winners from around the world included universities in Germany, France, Italy, Singapore and two in the United States; the University of Florida and Oklahoma State University.

“It will be a breakthrough for OSU to be able to expose our students and entrepreneurial community to the Sintratec technology,” said Dr. Paul Tikalsky, CEAT dean. “It is at the leading edge of sintered 3D manufacturing and prototyping.”

The Sintratec Kit is the ideal first step into the world of additive manufacturing. The printer can be integrated in any production environment and is easy to operate. It is particularly suitable for prototyping, model building, mechanical engineering, universities, industrial design, seminars and spare parts, according to EOS website. The kit is sold for 4,999 euros ($6,145).

“The Sintratec Kit Selective Laser Sintering system is going to be a great tool for our department and school,” said Dr. Hitesh D. Vora, assistant professor of MET and Director of Additive Manufacturing Research Lab (ATRC 116) and Industrial Assessment Center. “Using this system, we will be able to teach our students important skills from how to design for industrial additive manufacturing to hands-on experience with the Selective Laser Sintering process.”

“Additive Manufacturing is one of the focus areas of Mechanical Engineering Technology and other programs in our college,” said Dr. Young Chang, professor and head of the division of engineering technology. “The Sintratec Kit is a great addition to our resources for training future high-tech workforce.”

EOS is the world's leading technology supplier in the field of industrial 3D printing of metals and polymers. Formed in 1989, the independent company is pioneer and innovator for comprehensive solutions in additive manufacturing. Its product portfolio of EOS systems, materials, and process parameters gives customers crucial competitive advantages in terms of product quality and the long-term economic sustainability of their manufacturing processes. Furthermore, customers benefit from deep technical expertise in global service, applications engineering and consultancy.
