Thursday, February 8, 2018

STILLWATER, Okla. – Tyler Ley, professor of civil and environmental engineering at OSU, was presented the Marlin J. Knutson Award for Technical Achievement by the American Concrete Pavement Association in January 2018 at the World of Concrete in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This award recognizes Dr. Ley’s enthusiastic approach to learning, researching, teaching and innovating, which has had a positive impact beyond students to colleagues in the concrete paving industry. The award cited technical accomplishments which are resulting in innovative, practical products used for characterizing concrete for paving applications. The award also cites the Super Air Meter (SAM), which has become a core component of the concrete pavement industry’s drive for Performance Engineered Mixtures.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by such an amazing organization,” said Ley. “The ACPA represents the very best in concrete construction and I am so fortunate to work with them.”

Dr. Ley has more than 17 years of experience in the fields of cement based materials. He has worked as an engineer with a design consultant, construction contractor, government agency, and as a professor. He is also the Gilbert, Cooper, W&W Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering at OSU. This practical experience has elevated both his teaching and research.

His research focuses on studying the durability and constructability of cement based materials.  His research has developed national and state specifications, test methods, and policy changes.  He is a fellow of the American Concrete Institute and the American Ceramic Society and has received several awards including the NSF Career Award, the ACI Faculty Achievement Award, ACPA Martin J. Knutson Award, and the Regents Research Award from Oklahoma State University.
