Professor Stockel Appointed to the Board of Directors for the Board of Certified Safety Professionals

(Indianapolis, Indiana, Dec. 2017) Leslie Rex Stockel, MS, CSP, SMS has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Board of Certified Safety Professionals headquartered in Indianapolis Indiana. 

 

Professor Stockel is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Fire Protection and Safety Program in the Division of Engineering Technology at Oklahoma State University and has been a Certified Safety Professional since 1993.  Additionally, she earned the Safety Management Specialist Certification in 2016.

 

Professor Stockel has over 27 years of experience in the Safety and Health Profession, working in manufacturing, petrochemical and insurance industries as well as aviation, utilities, and public service.

 

Since 1969, the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) is recognized as the international leader in high quality credentialing for safety, health, and environmental practitioners.

 

BCSP directors serve in three-year terms, volunteering their time without pay. They assist with evaluation of applicant qualifications, governance, liaison with other organizations, and many other important activities related to advancing the safety and health profession.  Professor Stockel will be eligible for re-appointment to a second term in 2021.

 

OSU’s Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology program is an approved Qualified Academic Program (QAP) by the BCSP.  A QAP is a bachelors, masters, or PhD academic degree program in safety, health, and the environment (SH&E) whose required course curriculum has been reviewed by BCSP and has been found to be a substantial match to the current Associate Safety Professional® (ASP®) examination blueprint. 

 

Qualified Academic Programs (QAP) such as OSU’s Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology provide their graduates with additional recognition and the benefit of a path to professional certification.  Graduates of a Qualified Academic Program are eligible for the Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) designation immediately upon graduation and are waived from the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) examination.
