Sunday, June 24, 2018

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University are pleased to announce Professor Stephen Cross as the next director of the Bert Cooper Engineering Laboratory (BCEL) on the Stillwater Campus. This hallmark laboratory conducts breakthrough research and advanced training in structural, materials and pavement engineering.

Professor Cross was among the founding faculty members of the laboratory and is directing major quality control/quality assurance training efforts for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and its contractors. Dr. Cross has a distinguished professional, academic and research record at Oklahoma State University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Oklahoma, Arizona, Missouri and Kansas; and is an international expert in the area of pavement materials and construction.

Professor Cross’s three-year term as the second director transitions from the founding director of the BCEL, Associate Professor Bruce Russell. Dr. Russell has successfully completed his three-year term as director. The Dean of the College, Dr. Paul Tikalsky, and the Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Dr. Norb Delatte, praised Dr. Russell’s leadership.

School Head Delatte said, “I look forward to working with [Cross] to continue [Russell’s] momentum and further the vision and legacy of Bert Cooper, former CEO of WW Steel.”

“[Russell] has launched the BCEL in the right direction. Starting a new endeavor is never easy. We are proud of his hard work during this period,” said Tikalsky. “The faculty directed lab is a true collaboration of many great faculty and students. We are looking forward to seeing the impact of Dr. Cross in the next growth stage of the lab.”
