Oklahoma State professor publishes new edition of book
Thursday, August 1, 2019
Dr. Afshin Ghajar published the sixth edition of his heat transfer book, “Heat and Mass Transfer – Fundamentals & Applications,” in April this year.
The book’s previous editions have been used worldwide, having been translated into seven different languages. The book serves as more than a textbook, but also a tool to guide students toward a firm grasp on the basic principles and equations of heat and mass transfer, while encouraging creative thinking and development of a greater understanding of the subject matter.
One of the many new features present in the new edition is the focus on the concepts of “Prevention through Design” and “Engineering Codes and Standards.” These topics help with the knowledge of heat and mass transfer by emphasizing safety in designs and adherence to relevant codes and standards. This will allow engineers to better analyze, design and build components and systems to function within their design conditions.
Dr. Ghajar is a Regents and John Brammer Endowed Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace
Engineering at Oklahoma State University. He received his BS, MS and PhD in mechanical
engineering from OSU. He is a renowned expert in the heat and mass transfer field,
focusing on experimental heat transfer/fluid mechanics.
He has received countless teaching/service awards, such as the Regents Distinguished Teaching Award and the Halliburton Excellent Teaching Award, the 75th Anniversary Medal of the ASME Heat Transfer Division and the Donald Q. Kern Award, among others. Also, Dr. Ghajar, along with co-workers, has published over 200 reviewed research papers and delivered numerous keynote speeches at major technical conferences and institutions.
Dr. Ghajar is also a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Heat Transfer Series Editor for CRC Press/Taylor and Francis and editor-in-chief of Heat Transfer Engineering, an international journal published 20 times per year by Taylor and Francis. Heat Transfer Engineering is aimed at practicing engineers and specialists in heat transfer.
