Tuesday, December 8, 2020

Dr. Ranji Vaidyanathan, the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology’s (CEAT) Varnadow Chair Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Oklahoma State University’s (OSU) Tulsa campus, has been elected to the rank of Fellow for the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).

The NAI Fellows Program was established to highlight academic inventors who have demonstrated an unyielding spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a direct impact on the quality of life, economic development and the welfare of a society. Election as a Fellow is the highest professional distinction dedicated to academic inventors.

“I feel humbled and I could not have achieved this without the support of CEAT, OSU and my colleagues, students and support staff here,” Vaidyanathan said. “Patents and ideas have to be translated into reality and their support has helped to make it happen.”

Vaidyanathan’s continued dedication to the cultivation of the entrepreneurial spirit has led to the development of numerous patents, products and ideas throughout the state of Oklahoma. His efforts have provided opportunities for student-led startups, such as MITO Material Solutions and Infinite Composites Technologies, and established companies, alike, to develop new products and processes to enhance their commercial viability and success.

Vaidyanathan joins over 1,200 fellows, representing more than 250 universities and governmental and non-profit research institutes from around the world. These fellows, collectively, hold more than 38,000 United States patents, which have created over 13,000 licensed technologies, created more than 2,300 companies which, in turn, have created over 19.5 million jobs.
