Oklahoma State University’s American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AlChE) Student Chapter was awarded the AlChE Outstanding Student Chapter for the 2019-2020 school year.

Oklahoma State University’s American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AlChE) Student Chapter was awarded the AlChE Outstanding Student Chapter for the 2019-2020 school year.

Dr. Jindal Shah was the faculty adviser for the 2019-2020 school year. “The AlChE Outstanding Student Chapter Award is presented annually to those Student Chapters that demonstrates an exceptional level of engagement, enthusiasm, program quality, professionalism, and involvement in the university and community.,” Shah said. “They must provide a lot of opportunities such as speaker meetings and get-togethers for the Chapter members.”

The OSU chapter of AlChE holds various events and activities throughout the year, including a fall picnic and events throughout the Stillwater community. “We have many outreach opportunities,” Shah said. “Chemkidz is one such outreach activity in which    some of our officers go to Stillwater public schools and Wondertorium to  performs scientific experiments in an effort to  increase the awareness of science, technology, and engineering majors.” These outreach programs encourage students to major in STEM programs.

Each year, the competition for the award gets more and more challenging. Shah felt gratified to win the award in his last year and is proud of the club for its achievement. The OSU AlChE chapter has won the award seven times over the past 10 years, and two students won individual awards for the program.

Adam Mcbride, a junior at OSU, won the Sophomore Academic Excellence Award for the 2019-2020 school year. This award is given to a student member in each chapter who has the highest grade point average in their sophomore year.

Tionne Fultz, a sophomore at OSU, was awarded the AlChE Freshman recognition award for the 2019-2020 school year. This award recognizes one student member in each chapter who has been the most active student in their chapter during their freshman year.

“Interacting with students was my favorite part of being the adviser,” Shah said. “We had weekly officer meetings, where we would meet for an hour or so. The officers took pride in organizing activities for the organization; they wanted to make a difference. were not there because they were an officer, they were there because they wanted to make a difference. Seeing that enthusiasm and engagement was the most fulfilling part of being the Chapter adviser.”

OSU CEAT congratulates the AlChE chapter and students for winning the awards and is excited to see what the future holds for the chapter.
