Jamie Westmoreland, associate director of sponsored programs in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology, received the 2023 OSU Sponsored Programs Service Award during the first OSU Sponsored Programs Conference.

The Division of the OSU Vice President for Research sponsored the conference on Sept. 19, 2023. The conference theme was “Celebrating Sponsored Programs” and focused on professional development for OSU employees who are sponsored programs specialists.

The conference included guest speakers who shared current knowledge on topics including federal agencies’ data sharing requirements, research information security issues and the use of artificial intelligence in research administration.

Sponsored programs specialists from all campuses — OSU-Stillwater, OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, OSU-Oklahoma City and the Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa — were invited to attend.

The OSU Sponsored Programs Service Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates outstanding dedication, commitment and contributions in the field of sponsored programs.

A panel of evaluators assessed each nomination based on the nominee’s engagement in professional development offered by national professional organizations, as well as the nominee’s contribution to the sponsored programs profession such as presenting at conferences or on campus, publishing articles, serving on committees, contributing to updating procedures, or championing new processes.

“Jamie is most deserving of this recognition,” said Dr. Christine Johnson, associate vice president for research. “She works tirelessly to support CEAT faculty members as they pursue external research grants and contracts, she generously shares her knowledge of sponsored programs with others to help them grow and succeed, and she strives to create a culture of collaboration and teamwork."

Johnson later said though it was first year that OSU has sponsored the conference, she hopes it will become an annual event.

Nominees for the award included:

Jennifer Clausing — College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology
Jada Gailey — Ferguson College of Agriculture
Ramitha Raja — Spears School of Business
Lisa Sperry — College of Arts and Sciences
Kayley Watson — College of Education and Human Sciences
Jamie Westmoreland — College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology
Melissa White — Ferguson College of Agriculture

“Jamie has demonstrated consistent leadership to CEAT’s research mission to serve the faculty and staff in support of the wide range of challenges arising from cradle to grave of externally sponsored research,” said Dr. Chuck Bunting, associate dean of CEAT Research and Sponsored Programs. “Due to Jamie’s calming demeanor and confidence 'under fire,' the teamwork she has facilitated has led to CEAT Research being viewed as a model research administration office across the OSU campus.”
