OKstars and Native OKstars wrap up summer research internships

Thursday, July 21, 2016

Six weeks after beginning their summer research internships, 24 Oklahoma high school students gave their last presentations as participants in the 2016 Oklahoma Science Training and Research Students programs.

Known as OKstars and Native OKstars, the students’ projects ranged from the study of the toll of rheumatoid arthritis on Native American women to a comparison of rural and urban antibiotic prescription rates for children with ear infections. The interns spent 20-25 hours each week participating in the programs, including conducting research side-by-side with faculty mentors in biology, anatomy, forensics and other disciplines.

Both summer programs are aimed at high school students interested in medical or science careers.
