OSU-CHS student takes third at inaugural CHSI Health Data Shootout

Thursday, November 10, 2016

Ankita Srivastava, an OSU-CHS master's student in healthcare administration, recently took third place as a member of the HealthChurn team in the OSU Center for Health Systems Innovation’s first Health Data Shootout competition.

HealthChurn’s project was titled “Exploration of hospital readmission rates and nonclinical paths for Native Americans in West South Central census zone.”

"Personally, this was my first chance to look at the Cerner HealthFacts dataset and I was very excited to work on this project since my minor focus is on data analytics and information systems," Srivastava said.

During the event, students formed interdisciplinary groups that analyzed clinical data to find solutions to problems such as specific diseases and clinical decisions using clinical data from about 250,000 Native American patients from the Cerner HealthFacts Database.

The competition was judged by medical professionals from Stillwater Medical Clinic, Cerner Corporation and Cherokee Nation Health Services.

First-place OSU team winners are Pankush Kalgotra, Ankita Khurana, Rahul Sati and Shubham Singh. The second-place team members are Archana Chinnaswamy and Swarup Jacob. To learn more about the first- and second-place teams, visit the Spears Business News website.

CHSI was established by OSU-CHS and the OSU Spears School of Business to develop innovative patient care and rural health care through entrepreneurship and data analytics.
