Transition Week takes medical students from classroom to patient care

OSU-CHS students beginning their third year of medical school have reached a critical point in their education – moving from the classroom to the clinical environment.

The university launched its first official Transition Week to help prepare medical students for their medical rotations in internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, emergency medicine, family medicine, OMM and psychiatry. Transition Week ends tomorrow.

“The week allows students to complete all requirements before they start clinical rotations,” said Ashley Groom, clinical education program specialist. The week includes training and testing in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, tuberculosis test reading and much more.

The Clerkship Program consists of 22-four-week rotations and three Didactic Weeks. Each student is assigned clerkship rotations by the Office of Clinical Education. Each rotation is four weeks of actual clinical experience.
