OSU-COM among top 10 medical schools students eager to attend

Thursday, January 5, 2017

OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine (OSU-COM) has been ranked among the top 10 medical schools that students are eager to attend, according to U.S. News & World Report.

More than 75 percent of students who are accepted to OSU-COM enroll at the school, which had one of the highest yield rates in the 2015-16 year, data shows. During that year, OSU-COM accepted 144 students. Of those accepted, 111 students, or 77.1 percent, enrolled.

Affordability was a primary factor in the rankings, as well as the quality of primary care education, the report’s authors said. In-state tuition at the top 10 school schools was generally less than $40,000 a year. The average in-state tuition is $26,078 for nine of the ranked schools, which is lower than the national average of $32,495.

The report noted that the medical profession is in high demand in rural states like Oklahoma due to a severe shortage of primary care physicians. Read more at U.S. News & World Report.
