OSU Health Care Heroes: Barrett Hunter
Tuesday, July 7, 2020
OSU Health Care Heroes is a series highlighting those from the OSU-CHS community who have gone above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic to serve their institution, community and state.
What is your role here at OSU-CHS and how long have you been here?
I am the Director of Compliance and Risk Management. I am in charge of ensuring our
university and clinic system remain in compliance with all state and federal laws
and regulations. I have been here for one and half years.
What do you enjoy about working at OSU-CHS?
I enjoy the people I work with and working for an institution that has such a holistic
and innovative approach to health care.
In what ways has your role and responsibilities grown and changed due to COVID-19?
I’ve tried to just be flexible throughout the last couple months and make myself available
to support our response effort in any way I can. I’ve spearheaded our COVID Task Force,
helped manage some of our testing site locations in Tulsa and at other A&M system
campuses, kept up with the daily changes and modifications to local and federal health
regulations and guidelines, developed PPE/COVID testing training, and worked on safety
measures to keep our students, faculty and staff safe as we return to campus.
How did you step up to meet these new challenges?
I am just lucky to work with great people in my department who have been extraordinary
and vital to our response effort. I have also learned to be more organized to manage
the increased responsibilities and workload.
What did you learn about yourself, your co-workers and your workplace, OSU-CHS, during
this time?
Mainly, I learned a lot about my co-workers in terms of responding to difficult situations.
I’ve been very blessed to be able to work with so many extraordinary people that have
met every challenge with grace and grit.
