OSU Health Care Heroes: Ivonne Mediano

Friday, July 31, 2020

OSU Health Care Heroes is a series highlighting those from the OSU-CHS community who have gone above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic to serve their institution, community and state.

What is your role here at OSU Medicine and how long have you been here?
I am an LPN (licensed practical nurse) in the Internal Medicine Specialty Clinic. I have worked at OSU Medicine for almost nine years.

What do you enjoy about working at OSU Medicine?
I like to be involved with patient care. I know this sounds cliché, but I love to be involved with patients.

In what ways has your role and responsibilities grown and changed due to COVID-19?
I have worked in the COVID mobile testing unit for more than nine weeks straight. During this time, I have worked in the tent at Healthcare Center and at the CHS campus. I have swabbed patients in the hail, rain and heat. I was a constant at the testing site every day and helped train all other nurses and medical assistants that came to help.

How did you step up to meet these new challenges?
I showed up every day with a smile on my face.

What did you learn about yourself, your co-workers and your workplace, OSU-CHS, during this time?
I have learned that OSU-CHS is one big great family. Being the lead nurse for the COVID drive-thru testing site I learned that we can take new responsibilities with stride even when new challenges arise from day to day. During this pandemic we all came together as a whole to help out in any way possible, we stepped up our game! Proud of the family we are.
