OSU Medicine names 2020 Resident and Attending of the Year

Wednesday, July 1, 2020

OSU Medicine has named Dr. Andrew Crow, D.O., as the 2020 Resident of the Year and Dr. Erin Brown, D.O., as this year’s Attending of the Year.

Resident of the Year

Crow, who is finishing his third and final year in OSU Medicine’s Family Medicine residency program in Tulsa, said he was shocked when he learned he had been recognized as Resident of the Year.

Typically, the award is given every year at Resident Graduation Ceremony in June graduation but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was cancelled, so Crow found out in a much more casual setting.

“I was drinking my morning coffee when I came across the email addressed to all hospital employees,” he said. “It’s an absolute honor. This is the 75th year OSU has graduated residents and with that comes a long line of excellence, competence and tradition.”

Crow, who is from Tucson, Arizona and graduated from Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, is the OSU Chief Resident in the Family Medicine department.

“It’s fun and rewarding. The work can be difficult and the hours long, but I’ve gotten to work alongside and learn from friends in numerous specialties on a nearly daily basis, which has been a blast,” he said. “I am humbled that my peers voted for me to be acknowledged for this award.”

Crow and his wife, Dr. Hanna Crow, D.O., who graduated from the OSU Medicine Internal Medicine residency program, will be moving to Kansas City where he will practice hospital and emergency medicine. He is also a member of the U.S. Army Reserves and will deploy as a flight surgeon next year.

Attending of the Year

Like Crow, Brown said she was surprised and honored to be named Attending of the Year.

“We have so many great attending physicians in all of the departments here at OSU, so this was not something I was expecting at all,” said Brown, who is a clinical assistant professor and an attending physician in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department.

Brown, who graduated from the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine before completing her OB/GYN residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, said she’s proud to be a part of the OSU Medicine family.

“We truly have an outstanding group of faculty and staff and always attract some of the best medical students and residents in the country,” she said. “I love being an OB/GYN. Whether it’s delivering a baby or performing a hysterectomy, I have a chance to make a tangible difference in my patients’ lives.”

Teaching has also become a passion, and Brown said she loves seeing the students and residents grow in their knowledge and skills.

“It means so much to me to named Attending of the Year. Despite being a young attending with still a lot to learn, I am very committed to resident education and wellness,” she said. “I appreciate the recognition.”
