OSU one of just 13 North American colleges recognized by AAFA
Oklahoma State University’s Department of Design, Housing and Merchandising (DHM) continues its longstanding tradition with an affiliation recognition from the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA). OSU is one of only 13 institutions to receive the affiliation status.
OSU has been endorsed by AAFA for more than 20 years, a reflection DHM department head Dr. Lynn Boorady said reflects the relevance of course content to fashion industry standards.
“Faculty incorporate real-life projects into the classroom and invite professionals from all areas to speak to our students,” Dr. Boorady said. “Keeping on top of industry changes such as the focus on sustainability and the use of technology in the design and execution of apparel sets this group apart from other departments in Canada and the United States.”
Faculty regularly attend webinars with industry leaders, students lead the Euphoria Fashion Show showcasing student-designed projects, and the Gerber Technology FashionTech Design and Development Center provides emerging tools in the fashion industry to students.
AAFA is a public policy and political voice for the apparel and footwear industry. As part of the AAFA affiliation, OSU DHM students are eligible to compete for large scholarships nationally, under AAFA’s Contribution to the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund.
“We are proud of our long-standing history of working alongside the professionals who make up the American Apparel and Footwear Association and plan on continuing to serve our students and the industry in the future,” Dr. Boorady said.
