One of the most prestigious newspapers in the world is now available to Oklahoma State University students, faculty and staff for free.

The OSU Library has funded a campuswide subscription to the New York Times with unlimited access through an OSU email.

The subscription includes no daily limit to the number of articles that can be downloaded, archives dating back to 1851, augmented reality and virtual reality in the NYT app, podcasts, multimedia and more.

It also includes access to two great teaching and learning tools: The New York Times in Education (must create a separate account using @okstate.edu email) and The Learning Network.

Matt Upson, associate dean for research and learning services for the OSU Library, said the project came about as a result of student advocacy and the Student Government Association.

“We definitely want to acknowledge the role of SGA, especially President Jack Edwards, who worked with the Library to investigate options for access and provided input from the student body,” Upson said. “Student advocacy and desire for easy-to-access current news content really drove this process, and it’s great to see their enthusiasm for something that will be beneficial to everyone.”

Upson said the subscription will be a game changer for anyone on the OSU campus and will provide a news outlet that most could have never had access to before because of financial limitations.

“The Library is excited to provide our students, faculty and staff with access to current news from around the world through the New York Times,” Upson said. “While we’ve always been interested in providing access to historical newspaper content for our researchers and have provided current content through many of our databases, we feel that this subscription allows our community to more easily engage with current news in order to be better informed about our world and improve news and media literacy opportunities on campus.

To activate the subscription, OSU students, faculty and staff can go to okla.st/okstate-nyt, select their role, and follow the prompts to create their account. Note: you must first log out of any pre-existing accounts to activate the subscription through OSU.
