The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) has announced its speaker broadcast series for the spring trimester.
The series is part of the NSLS program that members participate in, but it is also open to all OSUIT students and employees. The series kicks off February 11, with all broadcasts airing in the Auditorium of Covelle Hall.
Spring 2024 Speaker Broadcast Schedule:
- February 11 - 6:00 PM CST — Speaker Broadcast & Success Networking Team Meetings (Kate McKinnon)
- February 18 - 6:00 PM CST — Speaker Broadcast & Success Networking Team Meetings (Judge Frank Caprio)
- March 4 - 6:00 PM CST — Speaker Broadcast & Success Networking Team Meetings (Malcolm Gladwell)
Kate McKinnon, the celebrated comedian and actress known for her transformative performances on Saturday Night Live, will offer her unique perspective on fostering authentic leadership and personal growth. Through her signature wit and insightful storytelling, McKinnon will encourage attendees to embrace their true selves, empowering them to lead with courage, confidence, and authenticity.
Judge Frank Caprio, renowned for his empathetic approach on the hit series Caught in Providence, will share his philosophy of compassionate leadership. Drawing from his extensive experience in the courtroom, Caprio will highlight how small acts of understanding can profoundly impact individuals and communities, demonstrating the power of empathy even within the legal system.
Malcolm Gladwell, best-selling author and staff writer for The New Yorker, will explore the power of storytelling in leadership. In this talk, Gladwell will delve into how crafting compelling narratives can inspire action and drive change, emphasizing the vital role of empathy in connecting with and resonating deeply with audiences.
Each spring and fall, NSLS members are invited to attend the speaker series and engage in small groups with their peers on campus to build connections and accountability.
"NSLS empowers students with the crucial soft skills that complement their technical knowledge, ensuring they enter the workforce well-rounded and career-ready. Inducted students not only gain access to invaluable scholarships, job opportunities, and success coaching, but they also earn well-deserved recognition at graduation for their remarkable achievements as NSLS members," said Kyle Allen, activities coordinator and co-advisor for the OSUIT NSLS chapter.
Students are invited to join NSLS before each fall and spring trimester. Eligibility requirements include a minimum GPA of 2.75 and at least six credit hours on their transcript. NSLS members participate in a comprehensive five-step leadership program throughout the trimester.
Eligible students can submit their nomination code online and pay a one-time $95 membership fee to join. Need-based waivers are available through the Dean of Students NSLS Waiver Program.
NSLS is the only accredited leadership honor society in the United States. The program is accredited by Cognia and recommended by the National College Credit Recommendation Service and the American Council on Education.
