Fifth annual Back to School Bash offers free school supplies to Tulsa area students
Thursday, July 24, 2025
Oklahoma State University-Tulsa is hosting its fifth annual Community Back to School Bash on Aug. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m., providing free school supplies, live entertainment and information about programs and services to families of students grades Pre-K through 12.
“Back to School Bash has become a cherished tradition for our campus, offering a chance to support local families and education in a big way,” said Alnetta Morris, community engagement coordinator at OSU-Tulsa. “We’ve been able to hand out hundreds of backpacks filled with supplies each year. Last year, we broke our record by giving away over 1,000 bags – this year, we’re on track to do it again.”
Participants are invited to visit the booths in OSU-Tulsa’s Main Hall, where they can collect backpacks, school supplies and information about various helpful programs and services. Supplies are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking for the event will take place in OSU-Tulsa’s Parking Lot A.
45 community organizations will be participating in the event this year. Members of the OSU-Tulsa Police, Tulsa Police Department, EMSA, Tulsa Fire Department and City of Tulsa Water and Sewer Department will be present for families to meet with and ask questions. Free immunizations provided by the Tulsa Health Department will also be available.
The event is designed to create a fun family atmosphere for everyone, with local school bands, dance groups and youth organizations performing.
“Helping families get what they need to pursue their educations — that’s what we’re all about,” said Craig Freeman, vice provost and dean of the College of Professional Studies at OSU-Tulsa. “By providing supplies and connecting families to community resources, we’re fulfilling OSU-Tulsa’s mission to equip future leaders and scholars with the tools they need to succeed now and in the years ahead.”
The fifth annual Back to School Bash is possible thanks to community sponsors Chase Bank, ONE Gas and Tinker Federal Credit Union. For questions about the Back to School Bash, contact Morris at alnetta@okstate.edu.
