OSU Veterinary Medical Hospital Reopens!
Saturday, March 7, 2015
(Stillwater, Okla., March 6, 2015) – The Equine Service of the OSU Veterinary Medical Hospital is now open. We will receive emergency cases this weekend, and equine referrals and routine appointments may be scheduled starting Monday, March 9, 2015.
The equine hospital has been completely disinfected following the relocation of one patient confirmed with the neuropathogenic form of equine herpesvirus (EHV-1). This patient continues to be managed at an offsite bio-secure location and is improving neurologically. Serial testing has documented this horse is no longer shedding EHV-1.
Other horses that were in isolation have completed antiviral therapy and tested negative for EHV-1 on multiple weekly surveillance samples. These horses are expected to be discharged from isolation to their homes early next week.
Oklahoma State University faculty members have collectively spent more than a decade studying neuropathogenic EHV-1 in horses. They have used their knowledge, expertise and skills to safely and appropriately manage this incident.
OSU Veterinary Medical Hospital always has the best interest of its patients and clients at the forefront. Thank you for your patience during our brief closure which allowed us to successfully manage this incident.
