Veterinary Voices: Pet Birds

If you own or are interested in having a pet bird, the next Veterinary Voices Seminar is for you. Joao Brandao, LMV, MS, will present “Pet birds: How to provide the best environment for your pet bird” on Tuesday, May 5, at 7 p.m. in McElroy Hall Auditorium at OSU’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. McElroy Hall is located on the corner of McFarland and West Farm Road on the OSU Stillwater campus.

An assistant professor of zoological medicine at the center’s Veterinary Medical Hospital, Brandao will discuss husbandry, behavior and common medical issues seen in birds. He will also provide bird lovers with some tips on how to avoid common problems.

Brandao earned his LMV (Portuguese DVM equivalent) degree from the University of Tras-os-Montes e Alto Dourvo in Vila Real, Portugal. He completed exotic animal medicine and zoological medicine internships at the Great Western Referrals (Swindon, United Kingdom), Tufts University (North Grafton, Massachusetts), and University of Georgia (Athens, Georgia). Brandao then completed a three year zoological medicine residency and Master of Science degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the Louisiana State University. He joined the faculty at OSU’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences in late 2014.
