OSU Veterinary Center helps with Wondertorium Open House
Several veterinary students and two staff members at the OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences recently assisted at the Wondertorium’s Open House.
“Students, along with Jill Murray, a registered veterinary technician, volunteered their time and energy at Open House,” explained Elisabeth Giedt, DVM, director of continuing education, extension and community engagement at the veterinary center, who also volunteered. “The veterinary students helped children perform Teddy Bear Surgery where the children gown up and assist with suturing a patch on a stuffed animal.”
In addition staff and students painted faces and made animal balloons for visitors. Some even brought their own animals to share with the children. The veterinary center also brought “Fleabiscuit,” a giant flea created by veterinary students Jose Oyola-Morales and Debra Nguyen, both in the class of 2017. Children at the Wondertorium Open House were able to sit atop Fleabiscuit for photos like the young girl pictured above.
Participating from OSU’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences were the following veterinary students: Taylor Ferris, Liz Forbes, Ian Frye, Kaylynn Gruntmeir, Kayla Marvin and Kelsey Walker from the class of 2017, and Ashley Hollingsworth and Amanda Utt from the class of 2018.
