Evie’s Calf
Monday, May 8, 2017
Two years ago, veterinarians at Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences treated Evie, a Brahman calf owned by Bill Martell of Jacktown, Okla. Evie underwent groundbreaking treatment to strengthen her flexor tendons using underwater therapy (read "Underwater Therapy for Evie").
On May 1, 2017, Martell brought Evie to the center’s Veterinary Medical Hospital to determine if she was pregnant. Veterinarians confirmed that Evie was about to become a first-time mom. And on May 5, Evie and her newborn calf returned to the Hospital to ensure the passive transfer of Evie’s colostrum and beneficial nutrients to the calf.
With a little assistance from veterinarians, Evie soon bonded with her baby and the pair will be heading home.
