Improving Your Lifespan

Monday, February 6, 2017

Pictured above (left to right) are meeting attendees: John Morton, University of Washington research scientist; Drs. Sara Rostad, Oklahoma State University pathology resident; Tim Snider, Oklahoma State University pathologist; Denise Imai, University of California-Davis pathologist; Denny Liggett, University of Washington pathologist; Jessica Snyder, University of Washington pathologist; Erby Wilkinson, University of Michigan pathologist; Warren Ladiges, University of Washington lab animal veterinarian; and Xuan Ge, University of Washington postdoctoral research associate.

Timothy Snider, DVM, PhD, DACVP, a pathologist at Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences, is working to improve lifespan and health span. He is a founding member of the Geropathology Research Network.

“Our group is developing mouse pathology scoring systems to use in determining pathology endpoints in aging studies,” explains Snider, who earned his DVM (’96) and PhD (’05) from OSU. “The work is translational in that the hope is to understand mechanisms of aging and to develop and test drugs and other measures that improve lifespan and health span.

Drs. Snider and Sara Rostad, OSU veterinary center pathology resident, recently traveled to Seattle, Wash., to attend the second lesion scoring workshop for the Geropathology Grading Platform. The group consists of a research scientist, several pathologists, a postdoctoral research associate, and a lab animal veterinarian.
