International Lab Animal Technician Week

Friday, January 27, 2017

International Laboratory Animal Technician Week is Jan. 29 through Feb. 4, 2017. Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences is taking this opportunity to publicly acknowledge the technicians working in Animal Resources.

“OSU is proud to have three registered laboratory animal technologists on staff and many animal care technicians who are working towards their advanced certification,” says Dr. Todd Jackson, director of Animal Resources and University Veterinarian. “At OSU our animal care technicians work with mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, sheep, cattle, pigs, dogs and cats as well as the more unusual frogs and toads.”

Animal research plays a vital role in the work being conducted at Oklahoma State University. OSU takes great pride in following strict guidelines approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. OSU is committed to ethical and responsible animal use. The lab animal technicians make essential contributions to the research team in providing great care to research animals.

In appreciation for their work, several activities will be held during International Lab Animal Technician Week including vendor sponsored “Lunch and Learns,” a waffle breakfast, an ice cream social, and a special awards presentation.

Laboratory animal technicians will celebrate around the world. Countries participating with the United States are: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Scandinavia and the United Kingdom. For more information visit International Lab Animal Technician Week
