Veterinary Center Hosts Annual Open House

Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences opened its doors to the community during the center’s Annual Open House on April 7, 2018. In spite of colder weather, more than 1,200 visitors attended.

“Coordinated primarily by our students, Open House is a tremendous opportunity for the community to come and see what veterinary school is all about, what our students, faculty and staff do, and some of the research that we do,” explains Dr. Carlos Risco, dean of the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. “We are delighted so many people were able to attend.”

Activities included live animal demonstrations, exhibits, a reading of Rosie the Pig by alumna Dr. Rebekah Hartfield, carriage rides, appearances by Pistol Pete and Bullet, and the ever-popular Teddy Bear Surgery where children gown up to repair a torn stuffed animal.

Visitors also had the opportunity to bid on silent auction items. All proceeds benefit the Center’s wildlife fund. This fund supports the surgical and medical care of approximately 500 wildlife cases treated at the Center’s Veterinary Medical Hospital each year. Many thanks to everyone who donated auction items or bid on items. The silent auction raised nearly $1,300 to help Oklahoma’s wildlife.
