OSU to host Interdisciplinary Toxicology Symposium

Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences will host the Annual Interdisciplinary Toxicology Symposium on Monday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Wes Watkins Center on the OSU Stillwater campus. The Symposium provides an opportunity for exchange among students, interdisciplinary faculty, and leading outside scientists.

A poster presentation opens the program with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards available for both undergraduate and graduate students. Eight interdisciplinary graduate fellows will make presentations on their respective research followed by these three guest speakers:

  • Steven Bradbury, PhD, will present “Can we grow crops and monarch butterflies? Assessing risks of insecticides to monarch populations at the landscape scale.” Bradbury is a professor of environmental toxicology in the Departments of Natural Resource Ecology and Management and Entomology at Iowa State University.
  • Tammy Dugas, PhD, will present “Inhalation of airborne particulates containing environmentally persistent free radicals promotes cardiovascular disease.” Dugas is a professor and interim head in the Department of comparative Biomedical Sciences at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
  • James Klaunig, PhD, will present the 19th Annual Sitlington Lecture in Toxicology, “Current understanding of chemical carcinogenesis.” Klaunig is a professor of environmental health at Indiana University.

The Interdisciplinary Toxicology Symposium is hosted by Carey Pope, PhD, Regents Professor and Sitlington Chair in Toxicology and is open to the public.
