OSUIT Alum Designs Winning Mural at Second Food for Thought Event

For the second consecutive year, Okmulgee native Carmen Taylor was selected as the winning muralist at the annual Food for Thought event Tuesday evening. Nearly 170 people from the Okmulgee and OSU Institute of Technology communities took part in the event. Four finalists presented their designs for the east wall of the Grand Old Post Office building, OSUIT’s newest student housing facility. Each attendee voted for their favorite and Taylor, an OSUIT alumna, was announced as this year’s winner.

Culinary Alum Featured Chef for Second Cowboy Chef's Table Luncheon

Community Raises Money So Arts & Sciences Alum Can See

Jill Porter, an alumna of OSU Institute of Technology, was born with optic nerve hypoplasia, a condition that only allows her to see clearly a few inches from her eyes, so she is legally blind. Residents of Henryetta raised $10,000 in order to purchase special eSight glasses that allow Porter to have 20/20 vision.

OSUIT Partners with Community to Offer Okmulgee AirFest

Okmulgee AirFest is Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Okmulgee Regional Airport, 100 W. Airport Road. The cost is $5 per person or $10 per car or plane. Performances are scheduled to begin at noon.

High Voltage Lineman Alums, Students Head into Hurricanes to Help

The Houston area, and now almost the entire state of Florida, have recently been devastated by hurricanes Harvey and Irma leaving millions of people without power. First responders and lineman crews from across the country have mobilized to help those areas including OSU Institute of Technology students and alumni from the High Voltage Lineman program.

GOPO Mural Designs to be Displayed at Food for Thought Event

Faculty, Staff Invited to OSUIT Library Open House

The open house will be Thursday, Sept. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. with light hors d’oeuvres and drinks. There will also be a short presentation on how space impacts student success conducted by Steelcase Education, a company that partners with Scott Rice, at 3 p.m. in The Center.

Diesel & Heavy Equipment Alum Featured in STATE Magazine Fall Issue

Growing up, Charley Been had a vision of what he wanted to build his career and future around, but like many people, life seemed to have other plans. He originally wanted to go into the Air Force, but couldn't because he discovered he was colorblind. That's when Been found OSUIT and the School of Diesel & Heavy Equipment. After graduation he started as a diesel mechanic and worked his way up to service manager and shop foreman. He's worked at Tulsa's MHC Kenworth location for 12 years and was inducted into the OSUIT Alumni Hall of Fame in June.

Pushing yourself and rising to your potential was a theme expressed throughout the two commencement ceremonies held Friday, Aug. 25, in Covelle Hall on the OSU Institute of Technology campus. Mike Hayes, director of distributor development for Komatsu America Corp., addressed more than 300 OSUIT graduates, telling students in both ceremonies the story of how he came to learn about OSUIT and how he became a part of its mission of educating the future workforce two decades ago.
