Pioneering computer science alumnus battles bankruptcy and more on road to graduation

Miguel Pineda Soto graduated in July as one of the first to earn an online computer science degree from Oklahoma State University. The recent graduate credits the CS program for helping him get to where he is now﹣working full time at Goldman Sachs﹣but it was a tough journey.

Included among the honorees were computer science alumnus Joe Carroll and political science alumna Lou Watkins, this year’s two Hall of Fame inductees.

Blankenship, Bray named OSU-COM deans

During its regular meeting Sept. 9, the OSU A&M Board of Regents approved the removal of the interim title for the deans of the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine and OSU-COM at the Cherokee Nation. Dr. Dennis Blankenship is now dean of OSU-COM and Dr. Natasha Bray is now dean of OSU-COM at the Cherokee Nation. Both had served as interim deans since June 2021.

OSU-CHS ‘natural fit’ for paleontology student Forrest LaFleur

LaFleur is studying the neural anatomy of prehistoric crocodylia, the ancient ancestors of modern day crocodiles and alligators. He also serves as the graduate student representative on the OSU-CHS Alumni Board, vice president of the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Student Association and national liaison for the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science.

Alum John Barson looks back at his father's legacy, his journey with the school

In OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine’s 50-year history, no one has quite the same perspective as Dr. John V. Barson. His father, John W. Barson, was the founding president of the institution, which was established as the Oklahoma College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in 1972. Four years later he was a medical student at the same school where his father was president.
