Olds named associate provost for the arts, OSU Museum of Art director

The Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents has approved the appointment of Dr. Kirsten Olds as the inaugural associate provost for the arts and Marilynn and Carl Thoma professor, as well as the director of the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art.
Borland wins prestigious award from the Society for Medieval Feminist Scholarship

Dr. Jennifer Borland, director of Oklahoma State University’s Center for Humanities and a professor of art history in the Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History, was recently awarded the Best First Book of Feminist Scholarship of the Middle Ages for her book, “Visualizing Household Health: Medieval Women, Art, and Knowledge in the Régime du corps.” The award was presented by the national chapter of the Society for Medieval Feminist Scholarship, a group dedicated to recognizing individuals committed to feminist studies, specifically in the medieval period.

Religious Experience: OSU professor’s exhibition features centuries-old sacred art never seen in the U.S.

As the world slowed down in the early months of 2020, Oklahoma State University’s Dr. Cristina González was finding momentum in her corner of art history. An expert in colonial Latin American art, González specializes in New Spain, which was a viceroyalty of the Spanish Empire that existed from 1521-1821 and included Mexico, Central America and the southwestern United States. So, when González’s former OSU colleague, Dr. Mark White, approached her at the beginning of the pandemic about creating an exhibition for the New Mexico Museum of Art — of which he had just become executive director — she leaped at the chance to showcase Catholic sainthood and relevant artworks during the New Spain era.

OSU art faculty showcase their works in latest Gardiner Gallery exhibition

The Biennial Faculty Exhibition opened at Oklahoma State University’s Gardiner Gallery of Art Aug. 19, featuring work from full-time, adjunct and emeriti faculty members within OSU’s Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History. “There is a saying that goes something like this: artists make art for other artists,” said Andy Mattern, a faculty member whose photography samples are on display. “Of course, we want general audiences to connect with our work as well, but when your peers look closely and recognize your efforts, it is something special.”

Prairie Arts Center to host over 50 regional artists at 2024 Stillwater Arts Festival

On April 19 and 20, the Prairie Arts Center will welcome dozens of fine artists, vendors, musicians and food trucks to the annual Stillwater Arts Festival. With support from the City of Stillwater, the Arts and Humanities Council of Stillwater and Visit Stillwater, the arts festival is slated to be an “exciting event for art enthusiasts of all ages,” said Meghan Brasuell, general manager of the Prairie Arts Center.
