Stillwater area residents who are looking for a way to unwind after a long day may find just what they need at The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University.
Beginning April 3 and running each Thursday evening through May 29, citizens are encouraged to come participate in yoga practices and guided relaxation, all in the tranquil setting of The Botanic Garden at OSU.
Kim Toscano, host of Oklahoma Gardening, said she is excited to open the garden to this new activity because it gives the public another opportunity to come out and enjoy the peaceful setting.
The weekly yoga sessions will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Yoga in the Garden is free and is sponsored by OSU’s Department of Wellness and the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service.
“When you practice yoga outside, you invite even greater energy into the body through your contact with the sun, soil and fresh air,” Toscano said.
The yoga sessions will be taught by yoga therapist Carol Bender and are open to beginners, as well as those who have been practicing for a while. Each session will incorporate a short centering practice, gentle yoga stretches and guided relaxation. Sessions will take place on the east side of the Display Gardens in the Oklahoma Gardening Studio Garden.
“Carol will help us shed the worries of the day and welcome nature’s energy into our body, mind and spirit,” Toscano said.
Participants will need to bring their own yoga mat. They also may want to bring sunscreen, water, insect repellent and a small hand towel.
