2015 Spring Garden Concert Series begins May 1

Friday, April 17, 2015

Music enthusiasts in the Stillwater area will be happy to hear the concerts at The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University will pick back up beginning May 1.

Back by popular demand, the series includes concerts slated May 1, May 8 and May 15, said Laura Payne, volunteer coordinator at The Botanic Garden at OSU.

“We began hosting the concert series in the fall of 2013 and they are quite popular with the public,” Payne said. “The concert series and other events we host at The Botanic Garden at OSU are fun ways to draw the public out to the garden and let them experience first-hand the beauty of the area. It’s also a great way to connect the community to OSU.”

Kicking off this season’s concert series on May 1 will be Beacon Drive, a classic rock band featuring music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. The May 8 concert will feature Stillwater favorite Edgar Cruz, and Monica Taylor and The Red Dirt Ramblers will showcase their music May 15. All of the concerts will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

“We encourage families to bring a picnic supper and chairs or a blanket and come out to enjoy the music and the beautiful gardens,” she said. “This is a fun and relaxing way to kick off your weekend and people of all ages are encouraged to come out and spend a couple of hours at The Botanic Garden at OSU.

The concert series would not be possible without the generous support of local businesses, including Hideaway Pizza, Kicker, Daddy O’s Music, the OSU Office of the President, Flourishes Flowers and the Arts and Humanities Council of Stillwater.

“All of the concerts in the series are free, but donations are greatly appreciated to help us continue to offer fun and entertaining opportunities at The Botanic Garden at OSU,” Payne said. “Make plans to come out and enjoy the garden. I love seeing people enjoy the magic of this place.”

The Botanic Garden at OSU is located west of Stillwater on the north side of highway 51. For more information, please visit botanicgarden.okstate.edu.
