Oklahoma Invasive Species Conference taking reservations

It is not too late to sign up to register for the Oklahoma Invasive Species Conference in Norman, Oklahoma Friday, March 13

Hosted by the Oklahoma Invasive Plant Council and Oklahoma Pest Action Council, the comprehensive invasive species meeting will feature presentations on a variety of issues. Experts and specialists from Oklahoma State University and other agencies will be providing insightful information throughout the full-day conference.

“This meeting will have a little bit of something for everybody,” said Karen Hickman, OkIPC president and professor in OSU’s Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management. “We will present on a very wide variety of topics and be available for more in-depth discussions for participants wanting more information about a particular invasive species.”

Some of the topics covered will be crop weeds and pests, invasive species management, successful biocontrol of invasives and effects on native wildlife. There also will be information on many different invasive species, including invertebrates, pathogens, plants and mammals.

The cost to attend the meeting is $30, $15 for students, and includes a resource bag, lunch, and snacks and beverages during breaks. Registration can be done online at the OkIPC website, www.ok-invasive-plant-council.org.

“Both organizations have hosted meetings in the past that were very well attended,” Hickman said. “Our goal for this conference is to address the interests of a broader audience.”

The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. at the National Weather Center, 120 David L Boren Boulevard, and conclude around 5 p.m.
