Oklahoma Gardening gearing up for 42nd season

Casey Hentges, the new host of the Oklahoma Gardening television program, said she is excited to get the season started with new episodes beginning Feb. 13.
Although the host may be different when tuning into the 42nd season of the popular program, there is one thing that remains the same – viewers will still receive top-notch gardening advice, tips and know how.
“We’re getting back to the basics of gardening,” said Hentges, who is the 11th host of the show. “We are going to take an in-depth look at soil, build different types of raised beds and feature some fun DIY garden projects.”
Hentges also will be working closely with other specialists on campus to bring the latest, research-based information.
“OSU is conducting valuable research and we’ll present it in a way that makes it pertinent to a gardener,” she said.
The show will continue the tradition of doing a regional garden tour. Hentges, an Oklahoma native added, “I’m eager to explore new plants, gardens and visit with gardeners from around our great state and to share those experiences with our viewers.”
This season will take the Oklahoma Gardening crew to southeastern Oklahoma. There is a diverse ecology in Oklahoma and the southeastern region can grow unique plants which cannot be grown in other parts of the state.
Hentges is excited to share her passion of gardening with the viewers and looks forward to hearing from gardeners about the things they have learned and experimented within their own backyard.
“Gardeners often have an emotional story connecting them to their garden,” Hentges said. “It’s not just a plant. It’s the challenge, hard work, discovery and success of growing something. Gardens are a reflection of us and I want to share that with the viewers. By sharing these stories, we hope it will help inspire everyone to succeed in their garden and landscape.”
As the new host, Hentges wants to hear from the viewers and encourages them to share what they are doing in the garden via Facebook. Gardening enthusiasts also can follow Oklahoma Gardening on YouTube and Twitter.

Oklahoma Gardening airs every Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and Sunday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. on local OETA channels. If viewers are unable to watch on television, they can subscribe to the Oklahoma Gardening YouTube channel and see full shows or search for specific segments at their convenience.
The Botanic Garden at OSU is the home of the Oklahoma Gardening studio garden and is located west of Stillwater on the north side of Highway 51. The show is produced by OSU Cooperative Extension through OSU’s Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture and Agricultural Communications Services.
