Use science, writing and creativity to explore botanic garden
Friday, April 15, 2016
When people visit The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University, they typically explore the sights with their eyes.
However, those who come out to the garden April 23 will have an opportunity to take a nature walk with their words and explore the gardens with science, writing and creativity.
Laura Payne, volunteer coordinator at The Botanic Garden at OSU, said the event is free and open to everyone. Nature Walk with Words will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and feature family activities, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, story puzzles and much more.
“We also encourage people to participate in the adult writing workshop and delve into nature and their life experiences through writing prompts, different forms of storytelling and natural inspiration, all while enjoying the fresh April air,” she said. “The garden is a wonderful place for peaceful inspiration.”
The writing workshop is slated from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Payne said April is National Poetry Month, so this event fits right in. Volunteers will be stationed along the paths at the garden and will be ready to read some poetry while visitors enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
In addition to The Botanic Garden at OSU, the Nature Walk with Words event is sponsored by the OSU Museum of Art, Stillwater Public Library at the OSU Writing Project.
